This film shows how a community of people who chose for each other live together.
It shows their daily life, how they deal with decisionmaking, earning money, resolving conflicts, children, ecological and political issues and personal relationships.
Ever more people all over the world are seeking to find a better lifestyle solution - one which acknowledges the frailty of our planet and the failings of our social norms. Some explore ways of achieving a sustainable future by forming living communities.
Such a community exists in Brandenburg, Germany, 80 km southwest of Berlin. Since 1991 the „Centre for Experimental Design", better known by its German acronym ZEGG, has been refining a way of living that deals with the problems that face humanity.

The ZEGG community grew out of a social experiment in the eighties when forty participants came together to develop their ideas. Today the community flourishes with a core of 80 adults and 20 children, and an on-going program of culture workshops and seminars.

For 6 weeks, we lived in the community, filmed and edited there. These are some impressions (still pictures of the film):

Small house in ZEGG

People live together in groups of different sizes. There are smaller bungalows were you live with 2 or three people, or bigger houses for up to 8 families, living groups etc.

During the summer festivals people cook and eat outside

The children enjoy their freedom to run around, ride their bikes or paddle in the small pool. Its very different from the city and they have a lot more choice.

"Art plays an important part in the community. Just like music it is a means for people to express themselves and to bring out the creative potential of the whole community."
